Planetarium Shows
The Friday night shows coincide with Sky Tours hosted by the Stockton Astronomical Society. Sky Tours is a star party open to the public where you can observe through telescopes and observe the night sky. This event is held in the Shima 2 parking lot and is free. For more information about this and other Stockton Astronomical Society events see their website: http://www.stocktonastro.org/ January 27 and 28--Astronaut and Mayan Skies. The exploration of space is the greatest endeavour that humankind has ever undertaken. What does it take to be part of this incredible journey What does it take to become an astronaut Experience a rocket launch from inside the body of an astronaut. Explore the amazing worlds of inner and outer space, from floating around the International Space Station to manoeuvring through microscopic regions of the human body. Discover the perils that lurk in space as we subject Chad, our test astronaut, to everything that space has to throw at him. This month we will be taking a glance at the skies the Mayans studied. The stars they saw were similar to the stars we see in Stockton today, but they had their own unique constellations, star names, and legends to go with them. We will also take a look at how they created their calendar and why 2012 is of particular interest.
